Gary discusses how properly fit golf equipment and PGA golf Instruction go together like a happy marriage

Golfers need:

  • Golf Clubs that fit!
  • PGA Golf Instruction
  • "Marriage" between both

A proper golf grip is when two hands work together to form One Grip. (Instead of two hands fighting each other)

Points to remember:

  • The Ben Hogan Drill (left hand)
  • Position the right hand in the fingertips
  • Grip pressure not to exceed 65%
  • A balanced grips aids in releasing the club head.
  • V's formed by the thumb and forefinger point to the right shoulder.

Proper alignment means, the clubface is aimed toward the intended target, and the body flow lines formed by the shoulders, hips, legs and feet, should be parallel to the target. (Called a parallel left alignment)

Points to remember:

  • Always start the alignment process from behind the ball
  • Pick a spot in front of the ball about 3-feet away
  • Aim the club head-first
  • Align the body parallel-second
  • Always lay down two clubs to form a parallel teaching aid

Correct posture allows the golf club to swing around the body, so that the shoulders, hips, arms and hands are able to move freely and efficiently to maximize club head speed. With bad posture, bad golf swings result! Great posture will give you great balance!

Points to remember:

  • Bend 3 inches from the knees
  • Bend from the waist (make sure the football fits)
  • Make sure the back and neck stay in line
  • Maintain the same posture at
    1) Set-up
    2) During the Back swing
    3) Through the ball at impact
  • Arms hang to the ground & hips over heels

The back swing is the product of having a good golf grip, proper parallal alignment and great posture. The back swing is built around a great shoulder turn and a short back swing.
!

A Great Back Swing Includes:

  • 1) Turning the shoulders 90 degrees (back to the target)
  • 2) Hip only turns 25 degrees
  • 3) Weight stays on the inside of the right foot (no swaying laterally)
  • 4) Don't move legs laterally (don't bump the shaft stuck in the ground)
  • 5) Swing only to ten (10) on a clock with the left arm (short back swing)
  • 6) Use the tee, shaft or pencil drill so golf shaft is swung in a circle (plane) that points towards the golf ball.

  • The downswing is like throwing a baseball
  • Start the downswing with the left hip turning
  • The arms will follow
  • The "TEE" drill (end of grip) is driven to the target line and then to the ball
  • Hands and arms cross causing both arms to "EXTEND" after impact
  • Ultimate goal is "ARM EXTENTION" through the ball
  • Hips , during the down swing, should stay "INSIDE" the two (2) shafts
  • End Results-finish on tip toe, eyes, stomach and right knee point to the hole--arms will support the club like holding a tray of PIZZA
  • 98% of the weight finishes on the left foot-hold the finish for 5-seconds

Video Lessons

  • Drill #1--Relax the upper body, hands and arm drill (Tug and Pull until the upper body relaxes)
  • Drill #2--Waggle--movement creates relaxation
  • Drill #3--Try the mondra- "Practice Swing" -Obey the sound, like dancing to the music.
  • Drill #4-- The first (1st) swing should never be the real swing -hit the ball on the third swing (take minimum of 2 previous practice swings)
